THE
UN IN SPACE
The United
Nations is an organization dedicated to what happens on Earth. Yet
ever since the first explorations of space in the 1950's, the UN
has been actively interested in what's going on beyond the "Big
Blue Marble".
Not all countries
have space exploration programs. In fact, most countries do not.
The United Nations plays an important role in making sure that countries
meet up with each other to share and trade information that people
can use all over the world. The UN helps provide a way for scientists,
engineers, meteorologists, astrophysicists, and mathematicians to
get together with specialists in their fields from all over the
globe for the good of everyone here on Earth.
The branch
of the UN dedicated to spreading space knowledge and applications
for the good of the entire world is called the United Nations Office
for Outer Space Affairs, also known as UNOOSA.
