Peace
Boat is an international non-governmental (NGO) and non-profit
organization that works to promote peace, human rights, sustainable
development and respect for the environment. Every year, Peace
Boat organizes several peace voyages that circle the globe
on its chartered passenger ship 'TSS The Topaz.' Each voyage
starts in Tokyo, Japan and stops at different ports along
the way.
Peace Boat works with local groups at each port to organize
programmes that promote peace education, mutual understanding
and positive social change. Peace Boat builds partnerships
with local NGOs from all five continents to support their
grassroots projects. Once TSS The Topaz has docked at a port,
Peace Boat assists local groups by organizing joint appeals
to raise local, national and international awareness about
an important global issue or by highlighting a particular
issue through a study programme or symposium.
Peace Boat emphasizes that peace, human rights, and sustainable
development are interrelated and that any problem faced by
a community is a global challenge which must be tackled through
co-operation between peoples, organisations and governments
of the world. |
