You, Your Country, and The World
The next few pages will help you compare your opinions, and the laws of your
country, to the human rights standards adopted by countries around the world
to protect children—the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Optional
Protocol to the Convention.
First, review your answers to the Military Activities Age Chart. Then, compare them to the articles of the CRC. Note where your opinions match
the Articles of the CRC, and where they differ from it. Use the forms below to
record the similarities and differences. Make sure you use specific examples
from the CRC to explain your answers.
Your teacher will use a set of criteria, called a rubric, to grade your assignment. Ask your teacher for the rubric before doing this assignment.

Use your responses to the questionnaire on Age and Gender Requirements
for Military Tasks to help you fill in the following form summarizing
the results of your comparison. If you made different decisions about the compulsory and voluntary recruitment ages, you need to compare whether one (or both) of these age limits
violate the CRC and/or OP.

Complete the activities on Page 3 to compare your answers to the Articles of the OP. Then go to Page 4 and compare your country’s laws to the CRC and OP.
