TONI ANNE IDZINSKI, 6th GRADE

This memory I found in my big toe. It was in the shape of a star. It was blue. It was heavy but I managed to carry it up to my heart. I brought it deep into my heart. As soon as I put it there, it turned yellow. It started turning around. Light shown all through my heart. When I first saw the memory, it made me sad, but when I brought it up to my heart, it made me feel a little better. Now I know where it is and I can always go get it. The star is still turning and the light is still shining!

KATHERINE DAVILA, 6TH GRADE

On September 10th I walked around my neighborhood. I see a fireman and a policeman talking and drinking coffee. I feel kind of happy when I walk by them. "There's just nothing to worry about today," I said.

Today I walked to school with my eight-year-old sister. I'm holding her hand tight as I can. I'm afraid "something might happen." I see the same people walking around the neighborhood at the same time saying "hi" or "have a nice day." That's kind of like support for my community. I see the same fireman and policeman as I walk by. I think to myself, "This is the best place for me because there is security all around." I feel extremely happy that there are people right around the corner who are able to help us when we need them.

JAQUELINE CARMONA, 5TH GRADE

My community has changed a lot since the tragedy. Some people are becoming prejudiced toward Muslim people now. Some people are really working together. This tragedy has brought people together and broken people apart. I think my community needs comfort. If I could, I would contribute soothing words to my community. Sometimes I become afraid but I know things will get better. I think that is something everyone should know, that things will get better.

DANIELLA D'AGATE, 6TH GRADE

My community has changed because when people walk down the street they are friendly to the people they see. Before all this happened, they would just walk by and say nothing. I think my community needs some more people who are friendly and for everyone to be friends with one another. If I could contribute anything, I would donate my love for everyone so everyone could be loved. Instead of someone being hated, they would be loved like everyone else. I also think my community needs extra help in cleaning up the terrible mess from what happened a month ago. If more people help out, then everything will be cleaned sooner, and maybe people won't have to worry about things taking so long.
